In general, ideological conflict doesn’t seem to occur because of a given party (Democrat, Republican, whatsnot), a given position (Progressivism, Conservativism, etc.), etc. Parties and positions are consequences of the conflict.
It has to do with what people feel more comfortable with. The problem is that something a person feels comfortable with is just the most annoying thing for someone else.
However, the playfield isn’t balanced at all. As most of the time in politics, money normally has the last word. That’s one reason why decisions that don’t benefit most people happen.
